Flood Victim Gives Birth To Triplets
A flood-displaced woman, Mrs Ojiugo Ifeadigo, has had her
tears wiped with the birth of a set of triplets at Fr. Joseph’s Secondary
School, Aguleri, in Anambra East LGA.
The news of the birth was announced in Awka on Thursday by
the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Dr
Nwabufo Ejezie, while receiving relief materials donated to flood victims in
the state.
“A woman gave birth early morning last Wednesday at Fr. Joseph’s Secondary
Schools, Aguleri in Anambra East and had triplets, all boys.
“The woman and the kids are healthy and are still in the
camp. I personally examined them and they were doing fine,” Ejezie said.
He said the relief materials would be distributed to more
than 25,000 internally-displaced persons currently located in 21 camps across
the state officially known to the government.
“We know that some people have refused to leave their homes
and places and prefer to settle at undesignated dry lands,” he said.
He assured the people of fair distribution of the materials,
noting that the registration and distribution had been left in the hands of
camp managers made up of local government executives and selected persons from
the flood victims.
Ejezie stressed that the state ministry of health and local
government health departments had commenced immunising and treating people at
the general hospitals in Umueri and Onitsha to prevent epidemics.
The Anambra chapter of APGA and the National Emergency
Management Agency were among the donors of the relief materials.
The relief materials donated by NEMA included 876 bags of
rice, 300 bags of garri, 100 gallons of palm oil, 100 gallons of groundnut oil
and 50 bags of granulated sugar.
Other items were 100 plastic buckets, 100 blankets, 750 wax
prints, 405 mattresses, 500 mosquito nets, 200 plastic cups and 1,500 plastic
plates, among others.
Dr Jerry Ugokwe, Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Austria and
Slovakia and the state Chairman of APGA, Chief Mike Kwentoh, monitored the
release of the materials to the state emergency agency.
Kwentoh, who estimated the relief materials donated by the
party at N2.5 million, said the gesture was to assist the victims and explained
that the donation was a contribution from the state executive and other members
of the party in the state.
