Flood: Total Shuts Down Operations

Total Exploration and Production Limited, a multinational oil company in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State says it has shut down operations in the area following the persistent  flooding that ravaged its locations and installations.

The Manager, Logistics of Ponticelli Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Total E and P, Chief Ewa Ifeanyichukwu who disclosed this while presenting relief materials donated by the company to victims of the flood disaster in Egi clan said the two subsidiary firms have within the past  two weeks suspended production in the area.

He said that the items which included 1000 bags of rice, 1000 cartons of groundnut oil and 1000 mosquito nets were meant to alleviate the sufferings of the flood victims.

The Pontecelli Logistics Manager said that the gesture would further cement the already existing relationship between the company and the people of Egiland.

Also speaking, the Community Relations Manager of Pontecelli Nigeria Limited, Mr Okenwa Israel said that the company as a corporate entity is concerned about the sufferings of the people of Egiland as it concerns the disaster.

Mr Israel who described the relationship between the company and the people as very cordial, explained that the items are to show their concern to the plight of the people and urged other corporate organizations to follow suit.

Responding, the President General of Egi National Assembly, Chief Oris Onyiri thanked the company for identifying with the plight of the people.

Chief Onyiri who was represented by a coordinator of coalition of non-governmental organization and community institution at the Egi Flood Disaster  Rescurce centre, Obite, Pastor Nonye Nwokoma said that the gesture would further  strengthen the relationship between pontecelli  and Egi people.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of Egi peoples Assembly, Mr Vincent Ake urged for the creation of more camps in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
