The ongoing renovation of the main bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, will be completed today for the hosting of the 18th National Sports Festival scheduled to open in Lagos on November  27.

The site engineer of Deux Projects Ltd, the company handling the renovation, Mr Mark Ayorinde, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos over the weekend.

“Rehabilitation work at the stadium will be completed in four days time in readiness for the festival, scheduled to hold in Lagos from November  27 to December  9 said the Engineer on Friday.

“We are working assiduously to meet the Monday deadline, although we are not under any obligation to that effect,” Ayorinde said.

He said that the company’s workers were on site during the Eid-el-Kabir holidays in order to meet the four-day delivery target.

“This will ensure the completion of the work before the state government’s deadline of October ending,” he said.

The engineer said that the laying of the synthetic turf on the football pitch, which, according to him, was the most integral aspect of the job, had been completed.

He added that the drainage system at the stadium had also been completed.

Ayorinde said that the four-day holiday would be used to mark the tartan tracks at the stadium.

According to him, the wetness of the pitch in the last three days had hindered the company from marking the tracks.

Rehabilitation of the main bowl of the stadium which began on July 3 was temporarily stalled last month by shortage of materials, which led to a protest by the company’s workers.
