Councillor Donates Items To Ward
As part of effort to economically empower the people of her
ward, the councillor representing Ward Four in the Port Harcourt City Local
Government Area, Hon. Chioma Amadi-Oparaeli has distributed items worth
millions of naira to members of the ward.
The items include, Generator sets, sewing machines, Hair
Dryers, Gas cookers, wheelbarrows, hand grinders and clippers.
Speaking during the ceremony in Port Harcourt, Hon. Oparaeli said the items were intends to
economically empower the people of ward four with a view to reducing
unemployment in the ward.
She described the presentations the beginning of a new dawn
in the area.
“The empowerment programme is the beginning of a new dawn in
the ward and I hope to continue to alleviate poverty, bringing health care to the grassroot,” she said.
She also used the
occasion to distribute glasses and drugs to the people and commended Shell
Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria for its support.
In her speech, on HIV/AIDS, Diabetic, Hypertension and
maternal mortality, Dr Aleruchi Chioma Nnordi urged for abstinence from
premarital sex, while further enjoining them to go for regular medical
cheek-up.
She urged the elderly to avoid food with high rate of
cholesterol, while at the same time avoiding alcohol.
The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the
Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Hon. Ogezi Boms described the
presentation as the first of its kind in the area.
Hon. Boms said that, Hon. Oparaeli has set a standard which
her successors must emulate. He used the occasion to call on other elected and appointed representatives from the area
to come back home and show the same example.
The event also featured a medical outreach which saw
thousands of people being tested for various sicknesses free of charge.
