Club Campaigns For Good Water With Global Run
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, has resorted to sporting
exercise to create awareness for need for good drinking water in the society.
Last weekend in Port Harcourt, the organisation said that it
was poised to provide potable water for the people of Rivers State, especially,
those in the communities without access to good drinking water.
They noted that many people do not have easy access to good
drinking water.
Former president of the organisation, Rotarian (Dr) Georgina
Ngeri said this shortly after an awareness campaign tagged “Global Run for
Water” held in Port Harcourt, at the weekend.
According to her the run was to raise funds and create
awareness of the importance of water in the society. She said that the Run For
Water was being initiated by Rotarians in United States of America (USA).
“It is shameful to note that many people do not get easy
access to good drinking water. You are aware that water is life, without which
nobody can live, that is why Rotary has taken the responsibility to educate
people on the importance of getting good water,” Dr Ngeri said.
She continued that the organisation has provided potable
water for Government College, Eneka, Ozuoba Community, among others, adding
that they would execute water projects in communities that need good water. Dr
Ngeri who is also the co-ordinator of the event used the opportunity to appeal
to corporate organisations to contribute towards the project.
Also speaking, the Vice-President of the organisation,
Rotarian Frank Enyi, stated that the organisation would continue their drive
for funds to accomplish the water projects, adding that their target is to
ensure that all the communities have good water.
