Beach Soccer League To Begin In Nigeria
Beach Soccer League will be flagged off by the Nigeria
Football Association (NFA) anytime soon, an official has said.
NFA’s Director (Technical), Emmanuel Ikpeme disclosed this
to newsmen yesterday in Abuja.
Ikpeme told our correspondent that the Technical Committee
had met and reviewed all proposals to flag off the commencement of the League.
“The Technical Committee has met and after reviewing the
proposals from some of these organisations that want to partner with us in
terms of flagging off the beach soccer league, it has deliberated and accepted
that beach soccer league should commence.
“And when the board meets, the recommendations of the
Technical Committee will be presented to the board for approval.
“And I know that the Nigeria Football Federation Board is
willing to commence the beach soccer league in the country.’’
Ikpeme said that the decision was borne out of the
achievements beach soccer had made since its inception in spite of the absence
of a standing League.
He added that the game had come to stay, considering its
success within the short time it started in the country.
“Since its inception in 2006, within Africa, we’ve been
doing well; we have been champions twice; we have gotten to quarter final
twice; that is even if you consider the fact that we don’t even have a beach
soccer league, unlike other countries.
“So, I think we have done well and FIFA is very appreciative
of the Federation’s effort to promote and develop beach soccer.
