Association Urges Tree Planting
Environmentalists under the aegis of the Environmental Health Association of Nigeria have called for massive tree planting to mitigate the impact of erosion and flood across the country.
The South- South Vice President of the association, Mr. Peter Uwagbale, made the call during the fumigation of camps of flood displaced people in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Uwagbale, while warning against deforestation and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, also advised Nigerians to always heed to the warnings and advice of environmentalists.
Meanwhile, the Edo chapter of the association said its decision to fumigate the whole camps of the flood displaced persons across the state was to avert more problems for the flood victims and the state in general.
The chapter President, Mr. Edward Illenikhena, noted that possibility of the outbreak of diseases could not be ruled out, if the camps were not disinfected.
“In our own little way, we are trying to combat emerging problems, especially outbreak of diseases in the various camps. “We are fighting against a situation where the people who are running from one problem enter another.
“In all of this, we are contributing to making life a bit comfortable for the people,” he said.
