Amiesimaka Tasks Stakeholders On League Branding
Former Chairman of Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt,
Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka has charged football stakeholders in Nigeria to brand
the Nigeria Premier League in order to attract good sponsors.
Amiesimaka gave the charge during the just concluded
Soccerex seminar held in Lagos, saying that, for corporate bodies to sponsor
the league in Nigeria, it has to be properly branded by those managing and
running the affairs of the league.
According to him, “we should know that we do not have a
credible league yet and no company will like to put its money where they will
not harvest.
“First of all, let those who are in-charge of the affairs of
the Nigeria league start with themselves; we do not have credible people
running our league, so there is no way we will have a credible football
league,” Amiesimaka added.
He stated that as far as we still have those who are corrupt
in the system running our football and league, we will never get there,
talkless of attracting sponsor’s, Amiesimaka lamented.
The 1980 Nation’s Cup winner added that the Nigerian league
cannot grow beyond its present state as running a league is much more than the
players but, also included facilities, medicals, nutrition amongst several
other factors.
He, however, urged the media to always report true and
correct stories, stressing that their contributions would held the league to
attract sponsors in future.
