Former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has held
consultations with prominent Igbo leaders in Anambra State on the way forward
for Ndigbo in the 2015 presidential election.

Addressing the audience in Onitsha, Kalu said that the
primary objective of ‘Njiko Igbo’ was to unite all Igbo groups for the major
tasks ahead.

The former governor appealed to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe
Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe to liaise with him on the need to unite the Igbos.

Kalu said: “My message is Igbo unity (Njiko Igbo). We are
not preventing other Igbo groups like MASSOB, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Aka-Ikenga,
among others, from carrying out their own objectives.

“We do not belong to any political party; what we are doing
is to unite Ndigbo and make them a bundle of broom.’’

Earlier, in a remark, Senator Chris Anyanwu, representing
Okigwe Senatorial District in the National Assembly, noted that Ndigbo needed
someone who could champion Igbo unity successfully, adding that Kalu was a
suitable material.

She recalled that Kalu had initially resisted the offer on
the grounds that he had retired from politics but decided to make the move for
the good of the Igbo race.

Anyanwu disclosed that the group would soon meet with all
the existing political parties in Igboland and hold talks with South East
Governors’ Forum.

The group would equally have audience with religious
leaders, traditional institutions and various interest groups, she said.

She thanked Kalu for accepting to work towards the unity of
Ndigbo, adding that the task could be achieved through a combination of efforts
and God’s miracle.

Responding, the Obi of Onitsha said that the unity of Ndigbo
would enable the Igbo people to achieve their aspirations and decried a
situation whereby majority of investments owned by Ndigbo were outside
Igboland.

He said that if the government could stop armed robbery and
kidnapping in the zone and provide jobs for the youths, Ndigbo could then bring
their investments back home.
