18th NSF: Kogi Battle Ready For Medals
The Assistant Chief Coach of Kogi State Sports Council, Sefiya Onubaye, has said that Team Kogi would excel at the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF), in spite of the ongoing environmental challenges.
Onubaye told newsmen in Lagos, that the State’s Sports Council would do everything within its means to do the state proud at the NSF.
The assistant coach, who also lectures at the National Institute for Sports (Nisport) Lagos, stressed that the athletes were currently being put through in their various disciplines.
Onubaye added that the state’s athletes and officials would strive hard to position Kogi state in the topmost part of the medals table to complement their preparation on the training ground.
“The havoc wreaked by flood in some areas of the state will not militate against our good performance at the National Sports Festival.
“We are prepared for the festival and battle ready to compete very well, to appear on the medal table.
“We will do our best to get the gold medals, I assure you,’’ the assistant coach said.
Some parts of Lokoja, the Kogi capital and its environs, have been submerged in floods, following the rise of the water level of the River Niger.
The development also disrupted daily activities in the capital city of the North Central state, including sports.
The biennial sports festival tagged “Eko 2012’’, will hold from November. 27 to December 9 in Lagos.
