The State Chairman of the Hotel
and Personal Services Employers Association of Nigeria (HOPESEA), Chief David
Okorodudu has tasked operators in the industry to improve on their facilities
and provision of  services  in order to boost the hospitality industry in
the state.

Speaking to The Tide, Chief
Okorodudu said that a hotel facility was a major factor that could attract
tourists to the country, stressing that Hotel operators in the state needed to
improved on their standard of delivery.

He said “when setting up a hotel
the most critical factors to be considered are facilities and location of the
hotel, expressing surprise that most operators in the hospitality industry
disregarded these considerations in setting up hotel”.

He further said if the facilities
within a hotel are in bad shape, tourists would not patronise such a hotel
stressing the need for much improvement as the hospitality industry could
become the highest source of revenue to the government through taxes.

Comrade Okorodudu said that
tourists are always conscious of the standard of hotels, in terms of quality
and  services, and urged operators in the
industry to adjust to the present demand of improvement in security and
facilities.

He said hospitality in Nigeria is
growing and a variety of facilities in a hotel gives the customer a good choice
as attainable in other places of the world.

The Union Leader called for
regular in-house training of personnel within the hospitality industry.

They need to improve on their
skills and professionalism in handling industrial and human relations to be in
line with acceptable standards within the hospitality industry, he said.
