UN Applauds Africa’s Economic Growth

The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon says  that Africa’s economic growth is the fastest
in the world.

Delivering his
opening address at the 67th General Assembly Debate at the UN Headquarters in
New York, Ban noted that Asia and Latin America were making important advances.

He welcomed the important progress on some fronts, saying
that extreme poverty had been cut in half since the year 2000.

According to him, democratic transitions are under way in
the Arab world, Myanmar and many other countries.

“Still, we must raise our levels of ambition. We need more
from each and every one of you. And the world needs more from UN.

“Your people want to see results in real time, now, not the
distant future. The severe and growing impacts of climate change”are there
before our eyes – yet too many people in power seem willfully blind to the
threat,’’ the UN Secretary-General said.
