TUC Lauds Approval Of National Industrial Court For Rivers
Following the approval granted by the President, National Industrial Court Hon. Justice Babatunde Adenuro Adejumo for the establishment of a division of the court in the state, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has lauded the development.
Speaking to The Tide, the State Chairman of the TUC Comrade Chika Onuegbu said the union has been vindicated in its struggle for the establishment of a division of the court in the state.
Comrade Onuegbu said the leadership of the TUC had engaged the Rivers State government on the need for the establishment of a division of the court in the state considering the high level of labour related crisis in the state.
He said “TUC took up this matter of the establishment of a Division of the court with the state government and the leadership of the Judiciary with a view of saving cost, lives of litigants and their counsel traveling to other Divisions of the national Industrial court and ensure effective adjudication of Labour related crisis on time”.
“We are happy that our struggle has yielded appreciable efforts and recognition today by the Chief Judge of the National Industrial Court, he said.
The TUC Chairman commended the state Government and the Chief Judge, Justice Iche Ndu for providing temporary accommodation for the court in the state as part of the effort to promote the quick dispensation of justice in Labour related issues in the state.
Comrade Onuegbu also commended the effort of the Union’s former Secretary general and retired Judge of the National Industrial Court Hon. Justice McClayton Amabibi for his untiring commitment to the establishment of a division of the court in the state.
Meanwhile, the court commences sitting in the state from October within the High Court Complex.
The establishment of a division of the court in Port Harcourt has increased the number of the court divisions to seven. They include Abuja, Lagos, Kaduna, Calabar, Owerri, Enugu and now Port Harcourt divisions.
The jurisdiction of the court in the state covers other states such as Bayelsa, Delta and Edo State on labour related issues and employer, employee relationship.
