The Management of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) Port Harcourt says it will not back down from the standard it has set for the institution despite the on-going campaign of  calumny against it by some sections of the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Barineme  B. Fakae, who said this during a courtesy call on him by the Nyokhana Peoples Forum said that the university is determined to pursue best practices in academic standard.

Prof. Fakae said that the institution has recovered lost grounds in both academic and non-academic activities and urged those still harbouring sentiment to discard it and embrace changes in the interest of future generations of Rivers State.

He said that the visit by the group is not only soul lifting  but an encouragement for what the present administration is doing in the university.

The leader of the group, Chief Akpobari Benson Nwiyor (JP) said  that the visit was to reaffirm the support of the people of Nyokhana to the administration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and that of the university.

Chief Nwiyor, who described the monumental achievements of the vice chancellor as unparallel in the history of the institution urged some sections of the university community to embrace changes in the interest of the state.

He particularly urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to listen to the voice of reason and suspend its strike in the interest of the state.

The Nyokhana Peoples’ Forum leader also commended the state Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the reappointment of the Vice Chancellor.
