Rsg Donates Operational Support Vehicles To Immigration, Prisons
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon.
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has handed over fleet of vehicles to the Immigration
and Prison Services to support their operational services in the state.
Amaechi, while handing over the
vehicles to the Immigration and Prisons Service authorities in Port Harcourt
yesterday said, the state government has handed over three Toyota Homer Bus,
Two Toyota Hilux Patrol Vans and one Toyota Coaster Bus to the Prisons Service,
while one Toyota Camry was also handed over to the state Immigration Service.
Represented by the Secretary to
the State Government, George Feyii, Amaechi said, the handover of the vehicles
to the state Prisons Service was to support the services the prisons offer in
the chain of justice delivery to prison inmates.
According to him, “on behalf of
the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, I have the
pleasure to handover to the Prisons Service, support vehicles to ease their
operations, they are important to us”.
It would cushion the effect of
movement of prison inmates to attend court proceedings, especially to reduce
longer than they should stay in prison custody, and we believe it would give
the logistical support that is needed, he said.
The state chief executive also
expressed optimism that the vehicles donated to the prisons service would
ensure prison inmates are not denied access to justice due to lack of adequate
operational vehicles.
Amaechi equally told the Immigration
Service in the state that the state government appreciates its essential
services on border control, saying that, it would continue to support the
Immigration Service to operate without interruption.
He further charged the immigration
and prisons service in the state to discharge their legitimate functions
without fear or favour as the state government is determined to sustain the
existing collaborative efforts between the state and federal governments.
In his response, the state
Controller of Prisons, Jerome Babalola Ogundana expressed appreciation for the
kind gesture demonstrated by the Rivers State Government, saying that, the
command would ensure the vehicles are properly utilized in the speedy
dispensation of justice.
Jerome Babalola also thanked
Governor Amaechi for the support, assuring that his men would live up to
expectation.
In the same vein, the Controller
of Immigration in Rivers State, Mr. Stev Fimibama also joined his counterpart
in commending Governor Amaechi for attaching importance and support to their
services.
