The president of Rivers State Football Coaches Association (RSFCA), Okechukwu Okabie has called on the state governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi to build more recreational facilities and mini stadia in the state.

He, however, commended him for rehabilitating the No 1 Field in the Port Harcourt Township and construction of other sports facilities  in the area.

Okabie, a former Sharks Football club of Port Harcourt player and coach  bared his mind in a chat with The Tidesports soon after his re-elections as president of the association in Port Harcourt recently.

According to him, such mini-stadia would help in discovering budding talents that would represent the state in national and international events.

He said that with the facilities on ground, the coaches would also have the opportunity to train would-be football stars, adding that the state lacked adequate training pitches for future soccer stars.

The president disclosed that the association with about 50-members, most of whom are former top footballers and younger ones, organises seminars, workshops and attends coaching courses in order to improve themselves.

Okabie stated that the objective of the association has been to improve football and ensure that Rivers State football coaches were rated among the best in the country and beyond. He solicited for their recognition by the state football association and appealed to the state government for assistance.

The association has a former Eagle Cement FC coach David Egbiri as Vice President, current Dolphins FC coach, Mr Stanley Eguma  as secretary, Ebi Akassa as Assistant Secretary and former Sharks hitman, John Apollo as Treasurer, among others.
