The President of Port Harcourt Club 1928, Barrister Golden
Tamuno has reiterated that the club world continue to strive to promote sports
with the provision of modern facilities.

Barrister Tanumo made this assertion while briefing sports
journalists on the multi-purpose hall building being embarked upon by the club
recently.

According to him, the hall when completed would have a table
tennis section, hall for ceremonies and other facilities for the comfort of
members.

He said the edifice would further give the club more value
to complement the recently built squash glass court, adding that with such
modern facilities, sportsmen and women in the state who are opportuned to make
use of them would have advantage over their counterparts in other states.

The president described the poor performance of the Nigerian
contingents to the 2012 London Olympics as a shame, adding that authorities
should begin early preparation for the next Olympics and also feature in those
games that would give the country medals.

“International competitions should not be seen as jamborees
where people that do not have meaningful roles to play would under the expenses
of the federal government constitute a band of officials to tournaments,
stressing, “Nigerian should not expect much because we put in little or nothing
to make our athletes productive.”
