No fewer than 3,000 shops and 150,000 make shift sheds were demolished recently in Ibadan by the Oyo State Government in line with its environmental initiative.

Our correspondent reports that the demolition exercise also affected the Iyana Ojoo motor park under the Iwo road flyover.

The exercise came in the wake of the relocation of the garages under the Egbeda Local Government to the ultra modern motor park located at Temidire market on the new Ife-Ibadan expressway.

Mr Yemi Aderibigbe, the Special Adviser on Works and Transport to the Governor, said the demolition was being carried out after about three months notice given to the illegal occupants.

Aderibigbe, however, said government would construct a neighborhood market to accommodate the displaced traders inspite of the illegality involved in the action of those affected.

He said that the state government was committed to reforming the state in all sectors.

The special adviser said the ultra modern motor park at the Temidire gulped more than N200 million.

Aderibigbe, who was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Dauda Oladimeji, said the exercise would only affect those in Egbeda Local Government Area.

He said commercial drivers in Lagelu, Oluyole and Akinyele Local Government Areas would also be relocated when their parks were completed.

Aderibigbe said the vacant space would be redesigned for the beatification initiative of the state government.
