Okogbe Fire: Group, RSSDA Offer Medicare
The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) in
conjunction with USAMA Ekpeye socio-cultural organisation, United States of
America (USA) has ended its two days medicare mission in Okogbe.
The medical mission which was in connection with the recent,
tanker fire disaster which claimed the lives of hundreds of people, offered
free medicare treatment for more than 400 persons from Okogbe and surrounding communities.
The executive president of USAMA Ekpeye, USA, Mr.
Friday Adikima told The Tide in an
interview shortly after a closed door meeting with the executive director of
the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) that the mission was successful.
Mr. Adikima said that USAMA Ekpeye was moved to do something
after watching the horrible incident in an International Television, stressing
that RSSDA was immediately contacted for assistance.
The Executive President, however, regretted that the federal
government has refused to do something on the poor state of the East/West road,
which he identified as the major course of the incident.
Also speaking, the chairman, Board of Trustees of USAMA
Ekpeye USA Incorporated, Mr. Mobeye Okoroba, said that they were there on a
medical mission.
“We are here in a
medical mission, we saw the people, treated them and we are heading back home”,
he stressed.
Mr Okoroba also said that the group will explore the
possibility of a sustained partnership with RSSDA in other areas of endeavour.
Earlier, the Manager, Media, Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency,
Mr. Kingsley Uranta said that the Agency
has been involved in several medical missions in the state, adding that the
mission at Okogbe was to alleviate the suffering of the people.
