Ogun NULGE Embarks On 3-Day Warning Strike
Members of the Nigeria Union of
Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ogun State commenced a 3-day warning
strike on Wednesday to protest the irregular payments of their salaries and
other welfare package.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta
and signed by the Union State Secretary, Comrade Bamidele Oyeniran, the union
directed its members in the state to stay at home as from Wednesday.
Comrade Oyeniran said the decision
followed the failure of the state government to act on the issues of the
salaries payment and welfare packages for the union members.
He said “the decision to embark on
the warning strike was taken at the state executive council meeting of NULGE,
following the failure of the state government to take advantage of the days of
grace given to it by the union”.
The state government has remained
adamant by not showing any commitment to the union’s demand” he said.
The Secretary recalled that the
union had earlier given the state government a 14-day strike notice and a
separate one week notice which were ignored, stressing that it was only in
September that the state government would release the funds allocated for the
local councils in Ogun State for July.
Comrade Oyeniran said the Ogun
State government has not shown any sign of seriousness, stressing that the
state representatives at the recent negotiation with the union only resorted to
pleading but were not ready to shift ground or make any commitment.
The union leader said the warning
strike was to put pressure on the state government to take action to avoid an
indefinite strike by the union.
