NULGE Urges Oyo To Rescind Decision ON Sacked Workers
The Oyo State branch of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has appealed to well-meaning citizens of the state to prevail on Governor Abiola Ajimobi to rescind his decision on sacked local government workers.
Mr. Adetola Oguntimehin, the secretary of the union, who made the appeal in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday, said the retrenchment ought to be carried out, following due process.
“We urge stakeholders and well-meaning citizens of the state to prevail on Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the face of insecurity, unemployment and poverty ravaging the nation to rescind the decision in the interest of peace and development,” NULGE said.
The Oyo State Government on Tuesday sacked 1.161 workers of the local government service commission for various reasons, including alleged professional misconduct, falsification of results and old age.
The union said it was not happy with the treatment meted out to the workers through “unjust retrenchment, dismissal and suspension, noting that the exercise did not follow due process.
“The secondment of local government staff, to a third tier of government with separate scheme of service is against the ethics and rules of the civil service and the 1999 constitution, more so, when the affected officer did not apply for such,” the union said.
The union, however commended the governor for the appointment of a head of local government administration in the state’s local government service commission.
It appealed to all staff of the commission to remain calm, saying “the union was in firm control of the situation.
“The union reiterates its loyalty, commitment, support and cooperation with the government in its purpose-driven goals and aspirations for the overall development of the state.”
