The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) has concluded arrangements to create a database of hotel operators and their employees in the country, Mr Nasir Kaka, the South West Zonal Coordinator of the corporation, has said.

Kaka, who said this in an interview with newsmen on Saturday in Lagos, noted that the creation of the database would enable the corporation to have a complete list of hotel operators in the country and their employees for referral anytime it wanted.

He added that the idea was for the NTDC to monitor the operations of both hotel operators and their employees.

“The database became imperative following complaints about unacceptable practice by some hotel operators and their employees.

“The NTDC will also monitor both the local and foreign employees working in hotels in Nigeria.

“Some hotel owners and their employees engage themselves in shady activities by allowing people to commit criminal acts in the hotels.

“But through the database, we will identify them and know those involved in such acts.’’

The NTDC coordinator said that the database would also help to track operators or employees who changed their place of employment.

“So, if a particular employee of a hotel decides to work for another hotel, the database will show his or her identity and the new place of work.’’

Kaka said that the NTDC had been sensitising hotel operators to register with it, adding, however, that some operators had yet to register, “and very soon, the corporation will begin to sanction defaulters.’’
