The Lagos State Com mand of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said on Sunday that it had closed down 20 private security companies operating illegally in the state.

Mr Sunday Eromosele, the Command’s spokesman, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.

Eromosele said that the companies, which were shut down in the first six months of this year, were currently being prosecuted in court.

He also said that during the period under review, 44 people were arrested for various offences, while six fuel tankers were seized from suspected pipeline vandals.

Eromosele said that about 214,440 litres of petrol were intercepted from suspected smugglers, while the command assisted some members of the public to recover N5.6 million from suspected fraudsters during the period.

He said the command discovered and blocked many fuel smuggling routes.
