Mrs Amaechi Tasks Women Accountants On Corruption
Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi has challenged members of the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Port Harcourt chapter to assist the state government in its determination to fight corruption in the society.
Dame Amaechi made the call in her goodwill message during the inauguration of Port Harcourt chapter of the society held at the ATRIUM Plaza, Port Harcourt last Wednesday. The governors wife who spoke through the representative of the Commissioner for women affairs, Mrs Atonye Lawis Allagoa urged the Women Accountants to fight corruption to zero level and expressed her pleasure in associating with the group.
She also expressed happiness that women, the world over were beginning to realize their position in society and described the accountancy profession as a noble one that no organization can do without.
Also speaking, Secretary to the State Government, Hon George Feyii said the state government would continue to encourage members of the society in government in the area of training in order to enhance their professional skills so as to contribute effectively to governance in the state. He said that the state government was proud of them members, especially Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) appointed into positions of trust, adding that they have demonstrated a high sense of integrity and honesty. He charged them to continue to remain good ambassadors of the noble profession and congratulated the Port Harcourt Chapter on its inauguration.
In her speech, 1st National Vice Chairperson of SWAN, Mrs Onome Olaolu urged members to ensure that they operated within the stipulated guideline of the organization. She informed that ICAN approved the formation of SWAN, adding that history has been made in the state as it joined other states across the country.
In his speech, the chairman, Port Harcourt District of ICAN, Mr Francis Egworaha said the occasion has provided opportunity for members of ICAN to interact. He assured members of ICAN’s support at all times and urged the executive members to work as a team.
Earlier in her speech, the chairperson of SWAN, Port Harcourt chapter, Mrs Felicia Omubo-Dede assured that they would work as a team for the success of the association.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of award to distinguished members of the association including the wife of the state governor, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs.
