Man, 40, Docked For 419 Fraud
A forty years old man, Ikechi Osimini Beke residing at TMC Estate Abuloma in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Rivers State was on Thursday last week docked by a Port Harcourt senior magistrate for allegedly obtaining the sum of N3 million by trick, otherwise called 419.
The accused, Ikechi Osimini Beke is standing trial on a two count charge on obtaining money by pretence and advance fee fraud before senior magistrate Daisy N. Wanjoku.
The prosecuting police officer Sergeant Ikosi Omanoye told the court that the accused on March 15, 2012 at TMC Estate Abuoloma in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District with intent to defraud, posed and presented himself as a contractor that could deliver school benches and chairs and obtained the sum of three million, Two Hundred Naira from one Ibibia Solomon.
The prosecutor also alleged that the accused person on the same day and place in the aforesaid magisterial District caused the purchase and deliver of CRV Jeep Green Car with Chasis no SHSRD784X4U228051, Engine No x 205020 39558 given to him through the medium of a contract induced by false pretence adding that the accuse was fully aware that the pretence was false.
He averred that the accused committed an offence contrary to section 1 (1) (A) and 1 (3) 1 (1)(C) of the advance fee fraud and other related offence Act Cap Ale law of the Federation of Nigeria 2006.
The presiding senior magistrate, Daisy Nwanjoku granted the accused, three million five hundred thousand naira bail with two sureties like sum which must be a senior civil servant, on level 10 and above the sureties must show evidence of means and reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
