Man, 31, In Court For Impersonation

A 31-year-old man, Ambrose Onwu has been docked at a Port
Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly posing himself a naval officer.

The accused person was arraigned on a three count charge on
fraudulent act, impersonation and false pretence before Chief Magistrate,
Ipalibo F. Iyiabo.

The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Wilson Isaiah
alleged that the accused on the 6th September, 2012 at Borikiri and Iwofe
transformer at about 12.00pm in the Port Harcourt magisterial district did
obtain unlawfully under false pretence a total sum of Ninety Thousand Naira
(N90,000) from one Danladi Zaka and Zumfutt Ishaku all of No. 5 Trans-Amadi
Road Port Harcourt posed as a naval officer with the pretence of giving them
employment opportunity in the navy.

The police prosecutor further alleged that the accused was
fully aware that the claim was false representation knowing it to unlawfully
impersonated himself thereby committed an offence punishable under section 518,
419 and 108 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Rivers State Nigeria
1999.

The accused person pleaded not guilty in all the charges
brought against him before the court.

Chief magistrate, Ipalibo F. Iyiabo in his ruling granted
the accused bail in the sum of N90,000 with a reliable surety in like sum who
must reside within. Iyiabo said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of
means and have a fixed and ascertainable address which must be verified by the
prosecutor.

He adjourned the case to October 4 for further hearing.
