Lagos Builds 886 Housing Units

The Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, Mr. Bosun Jeje, on Thursday said that the State Government had built 886 housing units in different parts of the state in the last five years.

Jeje made the disclosure at the maiden edition of real Estate Unite 2012 conference organized by 3 Invest ltd., in Lagos.

The Tide reports that the theme of the two-day conference is “Jumpstarting Nigeria’s Real Estate For Global Investment”.

Jeje said that the housing units were located in Gbagada, Epe, Ikorodu, Agege, Ikeja, Mushin, Lekki and Badagry.

He explained that the gesture was aimed at providing affordable houses for the masses and to improve standard of living in the state.

“The attempt of Lagos State Government to provide decent accommodation for the teeming populace has resulted in the construction of over 886 housing units across the state.

“Apart from the multiplier effects of the provision of houses on the economy and the people, the regulation of transactions in the real estte sector of the state will have direct positive impact on all concerned”, he said.

The Commissioner also said that houses would provide long lasting solutions to the perennial housing challenges in the state.

Jeje said that the houses were build for the low income earners as part of the government efforts to make life worth living for the masses.

“Shelter as we are all aware is a basic human necessity after food. The population of Lagos State, which is put at over 18 million people naturally, makes the provision of houses a top priority for any responsible government”.

The managing Director, 3 Invest Ltd., Miss Ruth Obih, said that the conference was aim at uniting all genuine real estate developers in the state to assist the government to achieve its transformation agenda.

Obih said that developers in the state had united to improve on the standard of practice.
