Jigawa To Spend N82m On Schools’ Projects
Jigawa Government said it had awarded contract worth N82 million for various projects at the College of Education,. Gumel and the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Ringim.
The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim, stated this while briefing newsmen at the end of the state executive Council meeting in Dutse.
Ibrahim said the contracts were awarded to two indigenous engineering firms to ensure quality and timely execution of the projects.
He said more than N48 million was provided for execution of school development projects at the College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Ringim, while N34 million would be spent on similar projects at the College of Education, Gumel.
The Commissioner said the project would include construction of hostels, water closet, gates, rehabilitation of existing hostels as well as provision of furniture and instructional materials to the institutions.
He stated that the state government had also concluded arrangements to set up three additional girls’ senior secondary schools in the state.
He said the schools would be located in Dutse, Hadeja and Ringi.
The commissioner added that the measure was to expand the scope of school enrolment and accommodate the growing number of girls seeking admission into senior schools.
“More than 4,700 girls completed junior secondary schools this year and only 2,830 of them got admission into senior schools.
“Establishing additional schools will enhance access to quality education for girls in the state,” he added.
