The Imo Commissioner for Health, Mr Obi Njoku, has warned the public on the dangers of inhaling carbon monoxide.

Njoku gave the warning in an interview with our correspondent in Owerri.

The commissioner warned of the dangers of carbon monoxide inhalation, saying it had caused the death of many as a result of carelessness.

He urged the public to avoid using their generator sets in places without proper ventilation.

“People should be careful where they keep their generator sets, even if they are kept inside to avoid theft, they should be brought outside when they are in use.

“Carbon monoxide is very difficult to detect as it is tasteless, odorless and non–irritating, so you wouldn’t know you are inhaling it.”

The Tide recalls that nine persons were found dead in July in Emekuku after which a team of forensic experts were brought in to determine the cause of death.

He urged the public to disregard all unfounded rumors as to the cause of death, saying the official autopsy had established the cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Vitalis Onugu, confirmed the autopsy result.
