A medical practitioner, Dr Femi Akinola, on Monday urged the Federal Government to partner with the private sector for the development of the nation’s health care system.

Akinola, Medical Director, Enjoy Life Hospital and Scan Centre, made the plea in an interview with The Tide  in Lagos.

He said that the involvement of the private partnership would help to consolidate the gains of the sector.

Akinola also called for a culture of maintenance of infrastructure and equipment in the health institutions.

“The major thing that can keep our health sector to develop is when maintenance of infrastructure, equipment and staff welfare is given priority,” he said.

The expert said that the deplorable state of some government-owned hospitals was pathetic.

Akinola said that many of the government-owned hospitals were no longer attractive to patients because of decaying infrastructure, adding that the equipment in some general hospitals was not up to standard.

Akinola said that more attention should be given to the health institutions to enable Nigerians to have access to better health care services.
