The Deputy Governor of  Imo State Mr Jude Agbaso, has assured the people that the administration would complete all road projects it started before the end of its tenure.

Agbaso, who is also the Commissioner for Works, gave the assurance in Owerri, when the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo, visited him.

He said there was no way all the roads could be completed in the first year of the four-year tenure, explaining that road projects needed time for proper execution.

The deputy governor said that the State Government was constructing a central motor park in Owerri, to decongest the major roads in the city.

On the controversial Community Government Councils, he said that the administration meant well because the system would ensure rapid development in the rural areas of the state.

He said that the local government system had proved ineffective in developing the rural areas of the country.

“Corruption has surpassed the local government system; so why can’t we use the system that worked for us before.

He charged journalists to always investigate issues thoroughly before reporting, promising government assistance to the media in the state to function better.

“You people should help us reach the public on what we are doing and if you are stakeholders in building the state, let your reports reflect exactly what is happening. “

Earlier, the Chairman of the chapel, Mr Chidi Nkwopara, urged the State Government to address the menace of illegal motor parks in Owerri.

Nkwopara said that the menace had complicated the problem of congestion in the state capital, adding that it needed urgent attention.
