Govs Postpone Meeting For Lack Of Quorum

A meeting of governors of oil producing states, scheduled for September 7 in Asaba, Delta State capital, has been called off because of a lack of quorum.

The Tide reports that the host of the meeting, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, announced its postponement when the governors who attended could not form the quorum required for the meeting to hold.

The governors, who constitute the membership of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) Advisory Council, were billed to commence deliberations at 12 noon.

However, only four of them, including Uduaghan were present as at 5 p.m.

Apart from Uduaghan, other governors who came for the meeting were Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers and their Cross River counterpart, Liyel Imoke.

Consequently, the governors met for about 10 minutes at Uduaghan’s official residence and announced that the meeting had been shifted to September 15.

They cited lack of quorum and time constraint, occasioned by other pressing issues as reasons for the postponement.

Uduaghan announced that “the meeting cannot continue today, we have adjourned and agreed to continue next Saturday, September 15, because of time”.

However, Governor Godswill Akpabio later came at about 5.20 p.m. after Uduaghan had seen off the other governors to the Asaba Airport.

Also present at the brief meeting were the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Chris Oboh among others.
