Falode Calls For Resuscitation Of Women League
A member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
Media Committee, Aisha has urged the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) to
revamp the competition because Nigeria
is the continental champion.
Falode, who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in
Lagos, said there was need for Nigerians to have interest in women soccer.
“We need to look
inwards, looking inward means that we have to really begin to take interest in
the women’s league.
“The quality of players that you have in the women’s league,
the quality of matches that are played and the fixture of matches in the
league.
“The numbers of matches that are played in the women’s
league those that honour their games in the women’s league.
“It is the women’s league that will produce the players that
we use for the national team, so whatever we get is a reflection of the women’s
league.
“We have a league that is not competitive anymore; we have a
league that matches are not honoured.
“We have a league that does not have a sponsor; we have a
league that does not have a direction.
“We have a league which the leadership does not even know
what to do with the league. These are issues that we have to begin to take
interest in.
“We have to call on those who have been put in charge of the
league to give us a blueprint to give us road plan like a calendar of what they
want to do.
“It’s the same players we have been taking to these
competitions that we are still recycling. We have not been able to discover new
players because the league is not vibrant.
“The league is not being played; we have a very short
calendar for the league.
“Other countries are beginning to really challenge us even
in the continent; we have to wake up to our responsibilities.
