The Golden Eaglets have dedicated their 5-0 whipping of
visiting Junior Wasps of Rwanda in an international friendly to Governor Liyel
Imoke of Cross Rivers State.

Team head coach Manu Garba, while speaking to newsmen after
the game at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar at the weekend, said this was
“because Imoke is our foremost supporter’’.

The match was the Eaglets’ first high profile match since
they started camping in Calabar at the instance of Imoke.

The governor was represented as the special guest of honour
at the match by the state’s Deputy Governor, Mr Efiok Cohbam.

“We are dedicating this victory to Imoke because he’s our
foremost supporter. He, as well as the people of Cross River, gave the enabling
environment for our camping and, without adequate preparation, we will not be
where we are today.

The Eaglets, who are the country’s national under-17
football team, left nobody in doubt about their objectives in the international
friendly in view of the manner they approached the game.

The team enjoyed greater possession of the ball in the early
parts of the game but failed to convert some chances that came their way.

However, the spectators did not have to wait too long as the
Eaglets finally got their first goal in the 18th minute through Kelechi
Iheanacho who slipped the ball behind Rwandan goalkeeper Kimenyi Yves.

Star midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim went on to score a brace in
the 35th and 46th minutes of the match.
