Commissioner Tasks NMA On Healthcare Delivery

The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), has been charged to take on leadership  roles in the health sector.

Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Tamunoiyoriari Parker, gave this charge when a delegation of the newly elected officials of the association paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt.

Dr Parker told the delegation, led by NMA’s new chairman, Ibitroko Korubo, that they could achive the feet through hard work and dedication, saying this was necessary because of the vital position medical doctors occupy in the hospitals by their roles in healthcare delivery.

The commissioner, who was  one time secretary of the state branch stated the need for proper balancing in the welfare of NMA members and other healthcare Associations.

“My charge to you is to take the health sector as your own, not just the affairs of doctor, this is because having come from your own side and sitting at this end I believe that to giving better health care services to our people can be done if we take complete leadership of the health sector.”

According to him, although medical doctors are the reason why people go to the hospitals, but “your work will be more difficult if there is a leakage. Drawback on these other professions in the health sector.

“One thing you must do as you take over the leadership of the health sector is that you must interface, interact with them and look at their difficulties and see how you can help to address those issues.” he advised.

Earlier, the chairman of the Association, Dr. Ibitroko Kurubo, had told the Commissioner that the purpose of their visit was to introduce the new executive members of the Association and to show solidarity to one of their own.
