Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Christian Chukwu, has hailed the resoluteness of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) board in running a successful league season without a title sponsor.

He also commended the decision of the board to crown Kano Pillars FC champions of the 2011/2012 season.

Chukwu, also a former Green Eagles captain, gave the commendation in an interview with newsmen  at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

The last matches of the season were played last weekend with Heartland FC of Owerri defeating Akwa United of Uyo 1-0 at the Owerri stadium.

“The NPL has really improved this season. The season ended timely in the face of challenges.

“I think they (NPL) did the right thing by awarding the league title to Kano Pillars, because there is the provision that if a team fails to honor two matches or more, it means they are relegated and out of the league,’’ Chukwu said.

He commended the Falconets for their efforts, even though they did not win the consolatory bronze medal of the just-concluded U-20 Women World Cup in Japan.

“The girls should be given a befitting reception on return, irrespective of their position. Their effort is highly commendable, they put up a good fight,’’ he said.
