Ambrose Looks Forward To Champions League With Celtic
Celtic FC’s newly-signed on central defender, Efe Ambrose says he is eagerly looking forward to making a big impact at the Scottish club by appearing in the UEFA Champions League.
The Super Eagles player signed a three-year contract with Celtic after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Israeli club Ashdod last week.
“I have come here to find we are in the same group as FC Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow,” he told the media in Scotland moments after joining Celtic.
“It’s a lovely group. Some may call it the group of death and it will be hard. But hard work always pays,” he added.
Ambrose who has been capped 14 times by the Nigerian senior team has spent the last two seasons in Israel’s top flight, and he believes he has enough experience to weather the storm at the Scottish champions.
“I really thank Ashdod for giving me the opportunity to play abroad. The move to Israel really opened the door for me and gave me my opportunity.
“I had been to other clubs, but they (Ashdod) were the ones who gave me my chance. The experience will be handy and sufficient for me in Scotland and in European competitions,’’ he said.
On his transfer which came on the final day of the transfer window, Ambrose said it was on a long day which had been worth all the efforts put into it.
