Abia Approves Aba River Dredging
The Abia State government says it will soon begin the dredging of Aba River to accommodate bigger vessels.
A statement by Chief Eze Chikamnayo, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, said in Umuahia that the dredging was approved on September 5.
The statement said that the abattoir by the edge of the river in Aba would be relocated to Ahiaudele community to pave way for the dredging.
It said that government would build more stores and other facilities in Ahiaudele in partnership with the traders and other private investors.
The statement said that some faculties at the Abia State University in Uturu would soon be relocated to Umuahia campus.
It added that the contract for building faculties and other facilities had been awarded, pointing out that government also approved the establishment of Abia State Implementation Unit of the Rural Access and Mobility Project.
According to the statement, the unit will collaborate with other development partners to build 630.9km rural roads by 2013.
