A’ Ibom To Demolish Illegal Buildings In Uyo

The Akwa Ibom Government has said that buildings in Uyo
without approval from the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) would
be demolished without compensation.

The Executive
Secretary of UCCDA,Mr Christian Akpan,
made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Uyo, advising
residents of the city to seek approval from the authority before erecting
buildings.

“Otherwise, they will face the risk of their buildings being
demolished without compensation paid to them,” he said.

He said the warning became necessary as people were
violating the rules by constructing illegal structures and giving the city a
poor image.

“The demolition of illegal structures is still in full force
and the authority has commenced inspection to identify illegal buildings that
will be pulled down immediately,” Akpan said.

He debunked allegations that the authority favoured certain
personalities because of their status by not pulling down their structures even
when they were built in wrong areas.

“Favouritism is not in the operational instrument of the
authority and it cannot be practiced. We handle issues affecting the public
with all amount of sincerity,” Akpan said.
