The leadership of the two industrial unions within the
energy sector, National Union of Electricity Employees NUEE and their
Counterpart Senior staff Association of Electricity Companies Workers (SSAEIC)
have restated the opposition of the unions over the privatisation of Power
Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Speaking to The Tide, the State Chairman of  NUEE, Comrade Temple Banigo said the issues
of the workers entitlements and other outstanding benefits due the workers of
PHCN had not been settled and negotiation concluded with the industrial unions
but rather the government was acting in hurry to privatise PHCN.

He urged the government to conclude the negotiation with the
industrial unions and ensure the effective implementation of the labour
agreement reached with the unions on behalf of the workers.

Comrade Banigo said the unions are guided by the philosophy
of protecting the interest of Nigerians, as he described PHCN as a national
patrimony that deserves collective protection by all Nigerians and not only the
industrial unions members.

The union’s boss said the industrial unions leaders have no
self serving interests over the privatisation of PHCN rather than being
patriotic.

He urged the government to ensure that PHCN compete with
other electricity generating companies in the County
