Technical Director Urges NDDC To Float Football Tourney
The Technical Director of ONOLGA Football Team, Stanley
Wariso, has appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to
organise a quality football competition among the nine Niger Delta States for
sustainable development and empowerment
of youths in the region.
Wariso, who made the appeal at the weekend said that the
NDDC, corporate bodies and sports philanthropists should endeavour to host
tournaments in the region as to discover, harness and encourage budding
talents.
According to him, the competition would no doubt serve as
nurseries to discover fresh legs for clubs and national teams. He stated that
the future of football at state and national levels lies in the grassroots.
He maintained that those who are involved with the grooming
of talents from the grassroots level should also be encouraged. “Such events
would also boost our economy with interested parts helping to groom upcoming players
and as well expose them to international clubs for business purposes,” he said.
Wariso, who is also the Port Harcourt Director of Real Cub
Deportivo (RCD) Academy Espanyol, Spain, stated his readiness to partner with
interested parties to help groom and expose young stars to international clubs.
He commended the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike
Rotimi Amaechi for initiating the recently concluded Amaechi Cup, a wonderful
grassroots football competition, and the impressive prize money to encourage
the youth in the state.
“I give kudos to the organisers of the Amaechi Cup
tournament. I say to them well done and keep it up,” he said.
