Shell Partners RSG On Road Safety
The Management of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)
has reiterated its determination to synergise
with the Rivers State Government in promoting safety and best practices
within the transport sector.
The chairman, Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr Mutiu Sunmonu
made this assertion at the presentation of Road Safety Equipments to Rivers
State Government at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, recently.
Mr. Sunmonu, who was represented by the logistics manager,
Mr. Henry Mogbolu said the gesture was part of the company’s sustained
programme of support for the improvement of regulatory road safety risk
management in Rivers State, adding that their contribution would enable the
enforcement officers on the roads to effectively perform their roles.
According to him, improving road safety is indeed a shared
responsibility, stressing that effective risk management required the requisite
equipment to be used by the traffic management and road safety practitioners.
He noted that the company was conscious of the risks and the
importance of road safety management as it is part of their operational
policies, pointing out that road safety would always remain one of shell’s main
focus in its areas of operations.
Sunmonu, however, called on other private sector operators to
join in the commitment to improve road safety in the state and further
reiterated shell’s desire to assist government in its transport sector reforms.
The items which were received by the Commissioner for
Transport, Hon George Tolofari and the controller-General of Rivers State Road
Traffic Management Authority, Mr Nelson Jaja include High Traffic cones,
universal wheel clamps, Handhelp traffic batons, portable breath analysers and
Handhelp speed guns.
