Scientist in Court For Alleged Rape
A 35-year-old computer scientist, Ikechukwu Eke, was last Friday arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.
Eke, who resides at 20 Alaba St., Orilowo Ejigbo, Lagos, appeared in court on a one-count charge of rape.
Prosecutor Olakunle Shonibare told the court that the accused unlawfully defiled the 10-year old girl by forcefully having carnal knowledge of her.
Shonibare said that the victim told her mother that the accused threatened to kill her if she told anybody about his affair with her.
“The mother of the victim said that the girl’s younger sister reported to her that she saw her daughter coming out of the accused person’s room.
“When she accosted her, the girl refused to say anything until several interrogations by her mother. She then opened up on her ordeal with the accused,’’ Shonibare said.
He said that the victim’s testimony showed that it was her third time with the accused and that he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it.
According to him, the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused.
He said that the offence, which was committed on July 29, contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
