RSG, To Partner NDLEA Against Drug Abuse

has pledged collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
to fight drug abuse in the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr George Feyii made the
pledge when he played host to the state Commander of NDLEA, Victor Cole-Showers
on Wednesday in his office in Port Harcourt.

Feyii stated that the collaboration would ensure that the
state was rid of harmful drugs as it would foster peaceful atmosphere and
encourage development in all sectors of the society.

According to him, “the state would give you maximum support
and cooperation, because when the NDLEA succeeds in ensuring crime reduction,
there would be peaceful atmosphere to encourage development in all sectors of
the state”.

He assured that the State Government would do everything
possible to ensure the agency reward success that would engender a drug free
society.

Feyii who described youths as the most vulnerable group in
drug use, stressed that one way to insure the future of the country was check
drug abuse amongst young population.

The best thing is to work with you to prevent people and in
this case youths are the most vulnerable group and that is where the future of the
country lies.  We most work with you and
ensure you reward success”.

Earlier, the NDLEA Commander, Mr Cole-Showers called on the
State Government, corporate organisations and stakeholders in the state to
support the agency tackle the problems of drug abuse.

Mr Cole-Showers recommended the need for proper education
and enlightenment of citizens on the dangers associated with the comsumption of
the drugs.

The Rivers NDLEA Commander however commended the decision of
the federal government in including drug education in the National Education
curriculum of study in the country, describing it as a sure way of checking
drug menace.
