RSG Launches Telephone Line …Introduces Conference Bridge

The Rivers State Government, has launched a telephone line as part of efforts to bring the citizenry closer to the government.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Engr. Goodliffe Nmekini, who spoke during the launch in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said the idea was warranted by the need to improve interconnectivity between ministries for effective work processes.

The Tide was informed that the ICT department had so far installed over 100 landline telephones in all ministries.

Nmekini also explained that the phone lines would enable people to interact while at work, and as well, promote good working relationship.

According to him, agents at the contact centre alias “desk centre” would welcome and direct callers to their respective offices.

He said there would be commissioners help line that would enable citizens reach them (commissioners) easily without passing through protocols.

The Governor’s SA explained that the services would run between the hours of 8am and 5pm in the evening to properly cover working hours.

He noted that other parasatals could also benefit from the service through the RIVCLOUD initiatives which was recently launched by the state government.

He said further that there would be other packages like Conference Bridge that will enable government officials outside the country to get connected in a meeting process.

Our correspondent reports that a toll free phone service will be made available for the citizens, to allow them make emergency calls.

He hinted that it would save cost, adding that all costs would be under the ICT, as no additional cost would be charged on the ministries.
