The Rivers State Ministry of Education has flagged-off the
annual holday tour for pupils in public schools.

At the flagging-off ceremony in Port Harcourt,  the Commissioner For Education, Dame Alice
Lawrence-Nemi, reiterated the ministry’s commitment in making education
accessible to every citizen in the state.

Dame Lawrence-Nemi said that the annual holiday tour is an
initiative of the ministry to expose and inspire the pupils for greater
heights.

Her words: “This occasion is another opportunity we are
using to flame up the dreams and visions of pupils in the state.

“The programme is geared towards fulfilling the ministry’s
new focus which is towards a more educated citizen”.

The education boss advised the pupils to take advantage of
the opportunity given to them by the ministry of education, noting that the
programme would pave way for them to excel in their desired future careers.

“As we mark the commencement of the 2012 annual holiday
tour, we want to advise our pupils to take good advantage of the opportunity
given to them by the ministry of education”, she declared.

She, however, commended the Governor of Rivers State, Rt
Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, for his investment in the education sector stating that
the programme would not have taken place if not for the transformation in
education in the state.

The commissioner tasked parents to take up their
responsibility by ensuring that their children and wards go to school saying
that the Child Right Law mandated parents to play complimentary role by
bringing their children to school so as to fulfill the free education policy of
the state government.

The holiday tour according to the commissioner would last
for 17 days and  the pupils would visit
places such as Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) office, House of
Assembly, Government House, media houses, Rivers State Judiciary, among others.
