RSG Approves Enhanced Salaries For Teachers
Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), have started enjoying the Teachers Enhanced
Salary Structure (TESS) following the state government’s approval.
According to a source within the leadership of the NUT in
the state who pleaded anonymity, the state Governor Rt Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has
approved the TESS for teachers in the state.
He said the governor has equally honoured the agreement
signed with the Federal Government over the implementation of the 12.5% for
teachers salary.
The source said teachers in the state will not embark on
strike as recently announced by the National Leadership of the union as the state government has implemented the
new TESS agreement for teachers.
It would be called that the National President NUT, Comrade Michael Olukoya had threatened
recently that members of the union will soon embark on an industrial action
over the non-implementation of the 12.5% agreement reached with federal, state
governments and the union.
The NUT president said Eleven States have failed to
implement the new TESS for members of the union.
The affected states are Cross River, Lagos, Delta, Abia,
Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Enugu, Ekiti Ogun, Katsina and Kogi.
Comrade Olukoya said “the stand of the NUT is that we want
to appeal to the governors’ forum to intervene in this matter because the issue
has been dragging on for quite a long time”.
He said members of the NUT in the affected states have been
pushed to the wall and enough is enough for the NUT to bear.
