Rangers Call For Fans’ Support
The Chief Coach of Rangers International FC of Enugu, Monday
Odigie, has urged the club’s fans to support the team to win the ongoing
Nigeria Premier League.
Odigie made the call after Rangers defeated Sunshine Stars
FC of Akure 3-0 in a rescheduled midweek match last week at the Nnamdi Azikiwe
Stadium, Enugu.
The coach said that though they won against the visiting
Sunshine Stars, a lot still needed to be done to win the league.
“Although we won the game, a lot still needs to be done to
secure the trophy and play in the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
Champions League next season,’’ he said.
On their next game against Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Odigie
said it would be unpredictable, adding that the team would be visiting the
Katsina-Ala Stadium in Makurdi with high hopes.
Rangers are leading the league table with 61 points, having
topped Kano Pillars with a two-goal aggregate.
Sunshine Stars coach Gbenga Ogunbote, however, attributed
the loss to fatigue.
Ogunbote said the team had just played a continental game
and travelled by road for the match.
“I don’t make excuses for losing a game but to be honest,
the goals never reflected the true picture of the match, but sometimes, teams
lose games.
“We have lost a game, but we have to go back and do our home
work.
“Every team in the league has the prospect of winning it, so
I respect them, including Rangers,’’ he said.
The coach called on football fans to support Sunshine Stars
in their ongoing CAF Champions League campaign.
Rangers’ Sunday Chinedu opened scoring in the 7th minute
through an assist from Ifeanyi Edeh.
Edeh increased the goal tally to two in the 48th minute,
while Chikeluba Ofoegbu sealed victory for them in the 80th minute through a
penalty kick
