PH Club’s Holiday Sports Programme Begins
The 20th edition of Children’s Holiday Sports Training Programmes organised by Port Harcourt Club would be flagged-off on August 6, at the various sections of the club.
The annual sports programme designed to teach the children various sporting activities like Golf, tennis, table tennis, squash, football, swimming, Darks, Athletics, Chess, scrabble, volleyball, basketball as well as billiards and snooker is expected to start daily except on Sundays.
The Tidesports gathered that moral classes on French language, leadership training, choreography and a raffle draw would feature during the sports training programme.
Speaking with The Tidesportss at the club recently the sports secretary of the club Mr. Kunle Maku said the programme was designed to catch them young with renowned coaches engaged to handle the exercise.
Mr Maku said the training is open to members of the club and the public, and called on parents avail themselves of the opportunity and enrol their children and wards for the all embarrassing holiday sports training programme, adding, that the training programme is aimed at keeping the spirit of sports in children alive”.
Also speaking the co-ordinator of the programme, Mrs Judith Assisi-Obomanu encouraged children in the state to come and participate instead of staying at home during the long holdings, stressing that the programme would be used to groan the children to be future sportsmen and women that would represent and win laurels for the state and the country at large.
Mr. Obomanu also said that the youths as future leaders of tomorrow, the club has decided to train them on the essence of good leadership and also exposed them to the modem facilities at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium as approved by the Commissioner of Sports, Mr Fred Igwe and the board of the ministry.
He disclosed that Air France that had been part of the programme for the past three years has promised to provide Ti-shirts and an air ticket round Europe, which would be used as a raffle draw with other prices to be won to raise money and support the children in ESI schools in the state as part of their contributions and appealed for more support from individuals, corporate organisations and multi-national companies in the state.
She noted that registration had began at the main club, forces avenue, old GRA, Port Harcourt.
