Members of the industrial unions of the Rivers State
Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide, have condoled with the
management and staff of the corporation over the recent fire incident that
engulfed part of the headquarters building.

The unions in a statement signed on behalf of the chairmen
and secretaries Felix Okogbule  and
Nwiueh Donates Ken of NUJ, NUPPPPROW AUPCTRE and NAUSSAW, described the
fire  incident as  unfortunate and a great loss to the
corporation, noting that the incident occurred at a time the corporation was at
the verge of its transformation to becoming the best Newspaper in the
South-South region.

While commending the state Commissioner for Information and
Communication, Mrs Ibim Semenitari and the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Adamu
Jakotade, for their quick visitation to the corporation, the unions urged the
state government to commence the process of total reconstruction of the
affected building.

The unions stated that since the incident occurred, workers
have been performing their duties under unsafe conditions, adding that if
urgent steps were not taken, the entire building may collapsed soon.

The unions also noted that since the state governor visited
Rhythm 93.7 Fm, the Abuloma Jetty and Eneka where fire incidents took place on
the same day The Tide complex also got burnt, the governor would have equally
visited the corporation to see things for himself.

They urged the government to used the opportunity of the
fire incident to embark on total renovation of the corporation by providing it
with the needed infrastructures that would enable it perform as a modern media
house in this competitive era of journalism.

The unions particularly thanked Total fire service for responding
to the distress call as well as the state fire service for their effort to put
out the fire and pledged to assist the state government to reposition The Tide
for better productivity.

For and onbhalf of the chairmen and Secretaries of the above
mentioned Unions.
